Collateral
Reading: Ronald Takaki, Hiroshima. This book, written
by a Japanese-American, is extremely critical of President Truman and his
decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japanese cities in August 1945. You do
not have to agree with the book. You must understand that each historian
advances a thesis.

Essay
History is not the past. History is our think about the
past. History is essentially
mythological. It springs from the human imagination. History is dynamic, not
static. It constantly changes to meet the circumstances of today.
