Helen Virginia Nowell Morrill Bunce, age 91, died November 12, 2003, in Winston-Salem, N. C. at the Oaks Nursing Home and was cremated. Click here for her death certificate. Helen Nowell married Dan's father, James Roy Morrill, Jr., in 1933. She was the mother of Dr. James Roy Morrill, III, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Dr. Dan L. Morrill of Charlotte, N. C. Her surviving six grandchildren are Linda Morrill Sterritt, Mary Dana Morrill Paradis, Ashley Morrill, Whitney Morrill-Rinkevich, James Morrill, and Joel Morrill. Her six great-granchildren are Jeffrey Sterritt, Michael Morrill Sterritt, Adam Sterritt, Dana Sterritt, Dan Morrill Paradis and Sasha Morrill-Rinkevich. In 1968, after the death of Jim Morrill in 1963, Helen remarried. An artistic, musical, creative, intelligent person, Helen painted pictures, collected primitive furniture and worked as Director of the North Carolina Eye Bank. Her best friends throughout her life were her brother, James Nowell, deceased, and his dear wife, Dorothy Nowell, of Winston-Salem. This picture was made on Helen's 89th birthday.
