Wood, Architects and Builders in North Carolina.  A History of the Practice of Building.   This course has two principal purposes.  First, you will learn the practical approaches for identifying and preserving elements of the man-made or built environment, including the methodology for preparing nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.  Second, you will examine and discuss with your fellow students and with me the philosophical tenets that underlay the historic preservation movement in the United States. Regular classroom attendance is imperative.  Missing more than one class will adversely affect your grade. January 18th  Introduction of the Class, especially focusing upon the Survey process and discussing how the class might assist in the post-World War II Survey currently being conducted for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission. January 25th  Special Note.  Because of snow classes have been canceled for January 25th.  We will cover both lesson one and lesson two on February 1st.  Be sure and look at the consultants E-Mail to me.  Let me know if you have a preference for the tasks you would like to undertake.  Learning the basics of governmental programs.  We will begin with a discussion of assignments to assist with the post World War II Survey being conducted for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission.  Read E-Mail from consultants.  The Class will then focus upon the one of the principal governmental institutions that provide protection for historic elements in the man-made or built environment.  It is the National Register of Historic Places (examine the following items:  1.  Notebook, ch 3., 2.  Murtaugh, pp. 176-181.  3. The National Register  4.  National Register Properties in North Carolina  5.  The Croft Historic District:  An Example of Environmental Review.    6. State Historic Preservation Offices In US.  7. Bisher, Charlotte V. Brown, Ernest H.
