Readings:  Shut Up And Shoot

This course is a hands-on, practical application course about the fundamental procedures for shooting documentaries.  It is not a study of the philosophy or history of documentaries.

1.  Session 1.  January 11th.  Introduction to the Course.

2.  Session 2.  January 18th.  Each student is to check out a camcorder and learn the basics of its use.

Shoot at least three minutes (no more than 4) of video that contains at least five scenes. 

Download to your external hard drive.

Discuss pertinent chapters of Shut Up and Shoot.

Hear presentation on World War One Project.

3.  Session 3.  January 25th.  Editing Practicum.

The entire class will be devoted to learning the basics of editing in Final Cut Pro 7.

4.  Session 4.  February 1st.

The entire class will be devoted to learning the basics of editing Final Cut Pro 7.

5.  Session 5.  February 8th.

The entire class will be devoted to learning how to conduct interviews.

6.  Session 6.  February 15th.

Each is to interview someone of his or her choice and bring the interview to class for editing.

7.  By April 18th Students are to complete an interview of a scholar involved in the World War One Project.

8.  By May 2nd each Student is to complete a ten minute documentary on a subject of his or her choosing.
