Answer Both Questions.  You may prepare a sheet to consult for each.

1.  What was the New South Creed?  Who were the principal leaders of the New South movement in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and what did they promise to do with the leadership they acquired?  What legal instruments did they use to sustain their power? Did they deliver on their promise?  What negative consequences, if any, were associated with the New South movement in Charlotte Mecklenburg?

2.  Profound political and social change occurred in Charlotte-Mecklenburg between 1950 and 1980.  What were the principal changes and who were the individuals who were associated with each.  Include in your discussion the establishment of Charlotte College, later the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the emergence of women to positions of greater influence in the community, and the change of status for African Americans.
