Assignments
Historic Preservation is a multi-disciplinary
field that can only be learned by applying historic preservation tools to
practical situations.
This class will have a unique opportunity to
work closely with the City of Charlotte in assisting with the implementation
of a plan to "brand" the Beatties Ford Road Corridor as an historic area.
To achieve this objective the class will be
broken into three separate groups with specific assignments. The grade
for each group will be determined by the quality of their end product.
Group One. Neighborhood Research Group.
This group will do intensive research on specific properties in the Beatties
Ford Road Corridor. The buildings selected will have to have had no
intensive research done on them before. The end product will be a
series of reports on these properties that highlight the historic
significance of each. An online and a printed version will be
required.
Group Two. Neighborhood Planning Group.
This group will develop a comprehensive preservation plan for the Beatties
Ford Road Corridor. They will determine what properties they believe
qualify for historic landmark designation, local historic district
designation, or listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
Justifications for inclusion will have to be included. An online and a
printed version will be required.
Group Three. Educational Video Group.
This group will develop a video highlighting the historic significance of
the Beatties Ford Road Corridor, discussing the challenges to the corridor,
and explaining how it can be revitalized. An online and a DVD version
will be required.
All Projects Are Due On April 29th.Interesting Opportunities.
On March 4th you are to email and bring to
